Song of the Week

Unsure if I've done this song before, but if so then it'll just have to get mentioned again! This week's song is Jūra, by Dvynukės. They seem to have released on solo album, but are present in this compilation album as well.

Song of the Week

This week's song is Остров невезения from the movie Бриллиантовая рука (The Diamond Arm, in English)! The song is sung by actor and singer Андрей Миронов (Andrei Mironov), and from what I can gather, this appears to be one of his more well-known movie appearances. I watched this movie yesterday (and once more this morning with a friend), and it's definitely very entertaining! Though, if you're not a fan of secondhand embarrassment, you might not enjoy some scenes as much.

Regarding movies and Mironov, I've been looking for an English-subtitled version of the 1976 (Марк Захаров) version of 12 стульев, but to no avail. I don't really know if anyone actually reads the stuff on the blog (in a way, I am thankful if you do), but if anyone reading this knows where I can find it, that'd be wonderful! I'd just watch it in straight Russian with no subtitles, but I'm not quite the good at processing speech yet, let alone having such a small vocabulary...

Ledi-Disko dicovery

This is probably ridiculously obvious, but I'm kind of slow.

Most (if not all, I'm still looking) of Ledi-Disko's first album's songs are Lithuanian covers of songs sung by Наталья Гулькина, with some coming from the band Мираж and others Звёзды. I'm probably going to take some time to translate all of the songs that I can, since it'd be good practice for me (and also I have a few friends into Ledi-Disko, so it's like some game of translation telephone while trying to explain what the song's about).

Ledi also has covers on her second album, which I'll be searching for as well. However, these will be more difficult because the two (or so) that I know are not sung by Наталья.

I'll probably write a list down somewhere, of the songs that I've found + the ones I've translated (all with links!). Ledi-Disko is probably my favourite artist of all time, and since there's not much information on her, this is my way of finding out as much as I can.

It'd be great to have some kind of translation team for this kind of stuff, but I'm not really sure how I'd put that all together - I can only translate French, Russian, and English, and transcribing any language other than English is just out of the question for me. I can't do it. I just think it'd be fun to have a couple people I share a hobby with.

Lately I've been gathering information on bands from various sites (typically the text is either Russian or translated into such) and translating it all into English to share with my friends. Maybe I'll start posting that kind of stuff on here, too. I have a personal Neocities that I host my translations on, though...
